We need to use a simple set of rules that help us deal with the waste we produce.
Reduce
By reducing the amount of waste we produce, we reduce the problems of dealing with the waste in the first place.
Reuse
Some items are designed to be used once and then have to be thrown away. By increasing the number of items that are reusable, we reduce the amount of rubbish going to landfill sites.
Repair
Rather than throwing materials away, checking to see if they can be repaired cheaply and easily can save money and waste.
Recycle
If you can't reuse your waste, check if it is able to be recycled and take what you can to the Bring Centres or Local Civic Amenity Recycling Centres and help by disposing of it responsibly. If everybody sorted their own waste into the recyclable forms it also reduces the cost of recycling.
Recover
If waste has to be disposed it is best to recover any value from it, if possible, before being placed in a landfill site.
Dispose
If nothing else can be done with the waste then it needs to be disposed of safely in a well managed landfill site.
